چکیده
Mycoplasma spp. are rarely recognized agents of infective endocarditis. We report a case of Mycoplasma hominis prosthetic valve endocarditis diagnosed by 16S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) PCR and culture of valves in a 74-year-old man. We reviewed the literature and found only 8 other cases reported.

First report of Sneathia sanguinegens together with Mycoplasma hominis in postpartum prosthetic valve infective endocarditis: a case report
BACKGROUND The presence of more than one bacterial agent is relatively rare in infective endocarditis, although more common in prosthetic cases. Molecular diagnosis from a removed heart tissue is considered a quick and effective way to diagnose fastidious or intracellular agents. CASE PRESENTATION Here we describe the case of postpartum polymicrobial prosthetic valve endocarditis in a young w...
متن کاملAtypical presentation of infective endocarditis.
The HACEK group of organisms are one of the infrequent causes of infective endocarditis. Infective endocarditis should be recognized and treated promptly to prevent excessive morbidity and mortality associated with the disease. Sometimes the diagnosis is delayed due to vague and subtle presentation. Through this case report, risk factors of Cardiobacterium hominis endocarditis and its atypical ...
متن کاملA Pediatric Case of Cardiobacterium Hominis Endocarditis after Right Ventricular Outflow Tract Reconstruction
Cardiobacterium hominis, a member of the HACEK group of organisms, is a rare cause of endocarditis and is even rarer in pediatric population. In this report, we present a case of infective endocarditis caused by C. hominis in a 16-year-old Tunisian girl who had undergone right ventricular outflow tract reconstruction using a Hancock® heterograft for double outlet right ventricle with pulmonary ...
متن کاملInfective endocarditis complicated with progressive heart failure due to beta-lactamase-producing Cardiobacterium hominis.
We describe a 66-year-old woman with infective endocarditis due to Cardiobacterium hominis whose condition, complicated by severe aortic regurgitation and congestive heart failure, necessitated aortic valve replacement despite treatment with ceftriaxone followed by ciprofloxacin. The blood isolate of C. hominis produced beta-lactamase and exhibited high-level resistance to penicillin (MIC, >==2...
متن کاملSubacute bacterial endocarditis caused by Cardiobacterium hominis: A case report
Cardiobacterium hominis, a member of the HACEK group of organisms, is an uncommon but important cause of subacute bacterial endocarditis. First-line therapy is a third-generation cephalosporin due to rare beta-lactamase production. The authors report a case involving endovascular infection due to C hominis that initially tested resistant to third-generation cephalosporins using an antibiotic gr...
